What is the difference between L.D.F. and M.D.F. ? Our L.D.F. (Low Density Fiberboard) is a proprietary product, made from 100% virgin Radiata Pine. Because it is made from wood fibers (instead of sawdust), it takes normal hardware and pre-drilling is not required. It is simple to finish, is of ideal weight (about 70 lbs for a 36" x 96" x 1 3/8 door) and is moisture resistant. M.D.F. (Medium Density Fiberboard) is made from waste, scraps and otherwise unusable by-products produced by machining lumber. Even pre-drilling, special threads and wood inserts do not solve the screw holding problems. It is difficult to finish, extremely heavy and allergic to moisture.
What is ASR Technology ? ASR Technology (Advanced Structural Reinforcement) is an integral part of every Trupine Door. It eliminates warping and insures dimensional stability. In addition it provides a superior substrate for paint on both faces of the door. Do Trupine Doors have glued in wood hinge blocks or edge strips ? No. Some manufacturers of LDF and MDF doors find it necessary to insert a wood block or edge in the door edge for adequate screw holding at each hinge. Trupine Doors have developed a proprietary door composite which eliminates the need for this block or edge. Some advantages we have over wood blocks and edge strips are: No cracking on the block edge. No screw checking. No pre-drilling required (with std. #9 screws). No glue joints to fail. No adjustment of hinge points on your door machine. No cracking or special requirements for strike plate, bi-folds, by-pass or pocket doors. With over half million doors sold, we have the experience and confidence to offer a limited lifetime warranty. What are Trupine Doors standard sizes ? While all standard sizes are available, we make all doors to order. Therefore any size, including custom sizes are readily available at no up-charge. While our standard doors are available in any size up to & including 36" x 96" and are available in 1 3/8, 1 3/4 or 2 1/4 thickness, we also offer oversize doors up to 60" x 120" in 1 3/4 or 2 1/4 thickness. Does Trupine offer an exterior door ? No. Our interior doors are fine to use between the house and garage, however exterior doors are not available at this time. Does Trupine offer fire rated doors ? Yes. Many Trupine raised panel doors and flush doors are available as a 20 minute fire rated door are readily available. 45 and 90 minute doors are also available. What are lead times for delivery of Trupine Doors ? Normal delivery is 2 weeks for most doors. When necessary, rush service is available at no extra cost. Please verify lead times when ordering. Can Trupine Doors be made into a bi-fold door ? Yes. If you specify a bi-fold, we split the door down the middle vertically. We can do this in ANY style or raise pattern including bi-fold louvers. When we make a bi-fold, the pattern will be on one side only (unless you specify both sides). The two panels will combine to measure the specified door width. Example: A 72" x 80" opening would require 2 doors which you should specify as 35.625 x 77.75 (a standard deduction for most hardware). You will get 4 leaves 17.813 x 77.75. We use a mortised 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 RC butt hinge on both 1 3/8 and 1 3/4" bi-folds. What about Louvers ? We can carve our False Louver or Privacy Vented Louver in ANY panel design (including arches). Our Privacy Vented Louver with angled vents allows air flow while still providing complete visual privacy. You may specify louvers in any or all panels of the door. You have a choice of using our Regency moulding, Inset Regency moulding, E-Sticking (quarter round bead to match our Premier profile), Square moulding (for a contemporary look or to match our flat panel doors) or Ritz (a double bead design to match our Ritz profile doors). Louvers are available in 1 3/8 and 1 3/4 doors and can be routed on one or both sides of the door. Can I have different styles on each side of the door ? Absolutely. A popular option is to add a recessed mirror to the back of a bath or bedroom door. Just specify your requirements. Do Trupine LDF doors require special screws ? No special thread screws are required, but care must be taken not to strip out the screws. A simple lower setting of the clutch on your screw gun is all that is necessary. We recommend using 1 long #9 screw. Pre-drilling is only required if screws check on the edge of the door. What about repairs to Trupine Doors ? Virtually any damage can be permanently repaired using ordinary white automotive body filler. Because of the smooth one-piece finish, the repair can be made invisible. How do I properly finish the doors ? Always test a small portion of a door for desired finish quality and paint compatibility prior to final finishing of doors. Our doors are sold with our deluxe prime finish (unless specified by the customer). To finish, simply wipe off any dust, repair any handling defects (if necessary), lightly touch sand where necessary and paint. All surfaces including top and bottom edges need to be properly sealed. Primer is not a sealer. For best results, apply a minimum of two coats of high quality paint, sanding in between coats. Paint should be applied with the door in a horizontal position to eliminate the solvents evaporating too quickly leaving an inconsistent finish. Do not finish doors that have an obvious defect. How should the doors be handled or stored ? Doors should be stored horizontally on a level surface in a dry, ventilated area. Place doors on a piece of plywood or cardboard to protect face of bottom door. Two 2 x 4s should be placed at 12 from top and bottom of door and one 2 x 4 should be evenly spaced in the middle. It is very important to use a center support so that the doors do not sag in the middle. Cover doors to keep clean, but allow air circulation. Do not lean doors against the wall for more than 1 hour as this may bend the door. Are Trupine Doors environmentally friendly ? Yes. The composite material used in our doors is 100% plantation grown Radiata Pine. In other words, it is grown like corn or wheat, a truly sustainable product.
